PIGMENTED LESION TREATMENT

WHAT ARE PIGMENTED LESIONS?

Pigmented lesions are skin spots and growths that are caused by melanin-producing cells in the skin.

Examples of pigmented lesions include moles, freckles, birthmarks, and age spots.

Pigmented lesions can be present at birth in some people. Meanwhile, others develop them over time as a result of sun exposure or the natural process of hormone changes and aging. Some people get them when they take specific prescriptions, such as birth control pills or hormone medications, especially if they interact with sun exposure.

Pigmented lesions are common and, for the most part, harmless. In fact, almost every adult has a few of them on their skin.

Pigmented lesions are rarely cause for worry. However, some can progress to other types of skin cancer. That is why you and your doctor must keep a close eye on them. If you have pigmented lesions that change color, form, or size, you should see a dermatologist.

HOW DO WE TREAT PIGMENTED LESIONS?

Many types of non-cancerous pigmented lesions can be treated with 1-3 laser treatments. We currently carry the xeo and excel HR devices from Cutera.
