Chemical Peels
WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?
A chemical peel (aka chemexfoliation or dermapeeling) is a treat in which a layer of a chemical solution is applied to the face. This causes a controlled injury to layers of the skin, which results in the affected skin peeling off. Generally, the end result is smoother, more youthful skin with fewer wrinkles, as well as a more colorful, brighter complexion overall.
DO CHEMICAL PEELS HURT?
You can expect a "spicy" sensation during a chemical peel, varying with the intensity of the peel you are receiving. We use facial fans to help with any discomfort. Most patients report feeling tingly, itchy, and a little heat while the peel is being applied. After the treatment any discomfort is quickly diminished.
HOW LONG WILL I PEEL FOR?
Depending on how conditioned your skin is and which peel you are doing, most patients peel for 5-7 days. Peeling typically happens on day 2 after the treatment. Chemical peels done on the body including decollete tend to start peeling later and last a little longer. Your provider will go over in depth expectations at the time of your treatment.
HOW MANY CHEMICAL PEELS DO I NEED?
Depending on your skin concerns and goals, we typically recommend 1-3 peels done within a year.
CAN I GET A CHEMICAL PEEL AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR?
We recommend getting peels in the fall through late spring. Chemical peels will make your skin more sensitive to heat and the sun, so summer is not an ideal time to get them done.
WHAT ARE CHEMICAL PEELS MADE OF?
Primarily, chemical peels use either salglycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid or carbolic acid (phenol), or a combination of those. PM Aesthetics carries both Mild and Moderate-intensity peels by Jan Marini, as well as a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) Peel. Book a consult to see which peel will work best for your needs and skin type.

Dermaplaning
DOES DERMAPLANING HURT?
Dermaplaning is entirely painless. The technique used for the treatment is a light sweeping motion across the skin to remove dead skin and vellus hair (peach fuzz). Most patients find it very relaxing.
DOES HAIR REMOVED DURING DERMAPLANING GROW BACK THICKER AND DARKER?
Not at all, this is a common misconception with dermaplaning. Any hair removed during the treatment will grow back, but it will be the same color and texture as it was.
CAN EVERYONE GET DERMAPLANING?
Dermaplaning can be done on any skin type as long as there are no open lesions, wounds, or active acne. Because we are using a sterile blade, we want to avoid anywhere on the skin that is open.
HOW MUCH DOES DERMAPLANING COST?
At PeachyMed, a single, stand-alone dermaplaning session is $80 dollars. When added onto a facial treatment, like a Diamond Glow, it is just $35.
